James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for United States Senate in Texas and businessman Mark Cuban will visit Fort Worth on Saturday to discuss plans to lower the price of medication.
The conversation will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Ridglea Theater, 6025 Camp Bowie Blvd. It will be moderated by Jessica Tarlov, a co-host of The Five on Fox News.
“Mark and I agree it’s time to break up the Big Medicine monopolies that control our broken healthcare system,” Talarico said in a news release. “Healthcare corporations are ripping us off — jacking up premiums and profiting off our pain.”
Talarico said his plan will break up monopolies, lower medical debt, and lower prescription drug prices.
In February, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, and Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Missouri, introduced the Break Up Big Medicine Act, which would prevent prescription drug wholesalers from owning or controlling medical provider organizations. If elected, Talarico said he plans to support the bipartisan legislation.
Around 4.7 million Texans are uninsured, almost twice the national average, according to the Texas Medical Association.
“James Talarico’s plan will break up healthcare monopolies and lower the price of medicine,” Cuban said in a news release. “I’ve spent a long time working to reduce the cost of healthcare for everybody – politicians in Washington have not. Whether you’re a Republican, Democrat, or an independent — you want more affordable, better quality healthcare. The plan James has put together will accomplish exactly that, which is why I am supporting it.”
