EL PASO, Texas (KFOX 14, CBS4) — The 2026 Texas High School Football season has arrived! Two Thursday night showdowns welcomed in the new year of Borderland football. The Canutillo Eagles defeated the Americas Trail Blazers 28-20. The Hanks Knights defeated the Montwood Rams 63-27.
Canutillo opens the final season under legendary head coach Scott Brooks 1-0. Americas falls to 0-1.
Americas took a 6-0 lead from a rushing touchdown from Maurice Edwards. Canutillo then scored 21 unanswered points from a touchdown pass from Cesar Huerta and a pair of rushing touchdowns from Sylas Reyes. The Eagles led 21-6 at halftime. In the second half, the Trail Blazers closed the gap, but Canutillo hung on for the 28-20 victory.
Hanks moves to 1-0. Montwood falls to 0-1.
Hanks was flying from the start. Led by senior quarterback Jordan Morales, the Knights jumped out to a 21-0 lead. Hanks continued to light up the scoreboard as they rolled to a 63-27 victory.
Next Thursday, Americas hosts Andress. Next Friday, Canutillo plays at Eastwood. Montwood plays at Del Valle. Hanks plays at Bowie.
