Fort Worth Police said they have arrested two men in connection with armed robberies connected to Facebook Marketplace transactions.
Police said on Saturday, August 15, officers responded to a series of armed robberies connected to those transactions.
Fort Worth Police said in a press release that the arrests were the result of a team effort with Central Patrol, the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), Directed Response Unit (DRU), FLOCK technology, and Robbery Detectives. Officers were able to identify a silver Honda sedan matching the suspect vehicle description.
The same day, officers detained 21-year-old Jeremiah Ross when they said they saw him running with a firearm, and 20-year-old Davontate Ashley was detained during what police described as a “high-risk traffic stop.”
Investigators determined the two were involved in the robberies, and stolen property was recovered during a search warrant. Both were arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated robbery.
Police want this to serve as a reminder to the public that when using online marketplaces, think of safety first.
You should always meet in a public place, during daylight hours. Bring someone with you and consider using a designated safe exchange location when available. They said if something doesn’t feel right, you should leave and contact the police immediately.
