A Corpus Christi father is in the running for a $25,000 prize and a chance to appear in a national TV commercial as part of the 2026 “Super Dad” contest.

Maurice Colvin III is competing in the nationwide contest, which celebrates fathers and raises money for the Children’s Miracle Network. The grand-prize winner will receive $25,000 and appear in a national TV commercial provided by Ace Hardware.

Voting opens Sept. 8. Supporters can vote for Colvin here.

Colvin joined 3NEWS First Edition alongside his children, Neriah and Amari, to talk about the competition and what fatherhood means to him.

Colvin said he originally signed up because he thought he was joining an online community for fathers. He didn’t realize it was a contest until an email arrived weeks later.

“I got an email saying, ‘Congratulations, you’re a contestant,'” Colvin said. The news also came as a surprise to his children.

“I was kind of shocked. I was like, ‘What? You got accepted to the contest? That’s great,'” Neriah said.

Colvin has spent nearly 20 years working as a barber, serving the Corpus Christi community. He said much of what drives him comes down to the example he wants to set for his children. “Legacy, it’s just something that was taught to me and my sister, and we’re just carrying the torch,” Colvin said.

His children say that the example has made an impact. “My dad means a lot. He’s a role model to me,” Neriah said.

Voting begins Sept. 8, with supporters able to vote once every 24 hours. The competition will continue through several rounds before a winner is selected. 3NEWS will continue to follow Colvin’s journey through the competition.
