Manvel Mayor Dan Davis announced on social media that he can no longer support the continued use of the Flock camera system.
As noted by our tv partner KPRC channel 2, Mayor Davis is calling on the city to reconsider its relationship with Flock Safety, saying concerns over privacy, data security, costs and the broader use of information collected by the company’s automated license plate reader cameras have led him to no longer support the system.
On social media, Davis posted: “After a great deal of research, conversations, and reflection, I can no longer support the continued use of the Flock camera system in Manvel,” adding, “I believe we can embrace technology and support law enforcement while still demanding strong safeguards.”
Mayor Davis also pointed out that the Manvel Police Department entered into a four-year contract with Flock Safety in 2024 for 21 cameras.
“With limited taxpayer dollars and competing public-safety and infrastructure needs, I believe the money currently being spent on Flock can be better allocated elsewhere,” he said.
