The Dallas Morning News’ power outage tracker brings you up-to-date information on outages on the county level to help you assess whether your situation is localized or part of a larger grid issue.
Click on a county to see the number of current outages, outages in the past 24 hours and which utilities are responsible for the most lost power. The data is updated every 30 minutes.
Texans, like people across the U.S., are experiencing more power outages due to major disruptions, according to federal data.
Outages experienced during non-major disruptions have remained roughly constant between 2021 and 2024, Energy Information Administration data shows. But factoring in “major event days” (when outage durations exceed a statistical threshold), Texans on average are undergoing more outages than before. There was a spike in outages including major disruptions in 2021, when a deadly winter storm battered the state’s energy grid.
The News’ revamped outage tracker leverages data from FindEnergy, a website that aggregates energy data nationwide. FindEnergy pulls county-level data directly from utilities like Oncor Electric.
FindEnergy also provides data on the number of customers served by each utility. Many utilities make customer counts public, but for those that don’t, FindEnergy has estimated customer counts using utility coverage area maps, population density data and information about proximity to other utilities.
