BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — An Arizona man is awaiting extradition to Texas to face a capital murder charge in connection with the sexual assault and killing of a 23-year-old woman more than 45 years ago.
Authorities said 68-year-old Kelly Lee Brower was arrested Aug. 19 in Cottonwood, Arizona, after modern forensic testing identified him as the person responsible for the 1981 death of Yolanda Herrera.

Herrera’s nude body was discovered by children in a field near the 500 block of East Aviation Drive in Bexar County on April 13, 1981.
Investigators determined Herrera had been sexually assaulted and beaten to death. She was last seen several days earlier walking home from a local bar shortly after it closed.
The case remained unsolved for decades before advances in forensic testing led investigators to Brower, according to authorities.
Brower is expected to be extradited from Arizona to Texas to face a capital murder charge.
