The Fort Worth Eastern Hills Highlanders opened the season in commanding fashion Friday night, cruising to a 62-0 victory over the Polytechnic Parrots at Clark Stadium.
The victory marked Eastern Hills’ highest-scoring shutout in more than a decade and provided an impressive start as the Highlanders look to take the next step as a program. They are expected to compete for the District 5-4A Division I title this season.
“We are just trying to gear up to take the next steps forward so we can be the next-tier team,” Eastern Hills head coach Devvin Anderson said.
For Anderson, the season opener provided an opportunity to see how well the team’s offseason preparation translated to game action.
“We just wanted to come out and execute, get everything going, and see if the things we’ve been working on, we’ve been working on the right way,” Anderson said.
The Highlanders quickly proved those preparations had paid off.
Eastern Hills dominated from the opening kickoff. Quarterback Jakayden Wright set the tone early, scoring on a touchdown run and adding a two-point conversion to give Eastern Hills an 8-0 lead within the first four minutes of the contest.
Running back Chris Johnson added the second touchdown of the game with 5:35 remaining in the first quarter, extending the lead to 14-0. Johnson continued his standout performance in the second quarter, finding the end zone three more times and helping the Highlanders build a commanding 34-0 advantage with 3:40 left before halftime.

Eastern Hills closed the first half in style when Highlander running back, Cameron Rembel, scored on a touchdown run, sending the Highlanders into the locker room with a commanding 42-0 lead.

“We wanted to let the kids be aggressive and get the season started out good,” Anderson said.
Rembel picked up where he left off after halftime. Just 42 seconds into the third quarter, he returned the opening kick-off 85 yards for a touchdown, pushing the score to 50-0.
The Highlanders continued to pile on points in the third quarter. Wide receiver Dorian Gilland added another touchdown with 3:14 remaining in the quarter, extending the advantage to 56-0.
Rembel capped off the scoring with another kickoff return touchdown late in the game. His score with 44 seconds remaining set the final margin at a 62-0 shutout.
Eastern Hills will look to build on its momentum when it faces the Wichita Falls Legacy Leopards on Sept. 4 at Scarborough-Handley Field. Polytechnic will travel to face the Nimitz Vikings on the same night.
