SAN ANTONIO – U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro is calling on Immigration and Customs Enforcement to release the mother of a San Antonio student he nominated to attend the U.S. Naval Academy.
Castro said David Garcia began as a midshipman at the academy this summer after the congressman nominated him earlier this year.
Garcia’s mother, Maria, is being held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, according to Castro. He said ICE detained her when she appeared for a green card interview.
