A crane operator is in the hospital after being rescued while 220 feet in the air Saturday afternoon.
Fort Worth Fire Department Alarm Office received a call for a medical emergency at a construction site at 1300 South Main Street at 11:50 a.m.
Crews found that the person having a medical emergency was still inside of the crane cab, approximately 220 feet up in the air.
Once the Incident Commander realized this was no ordinary EMS call, the Incident Commander made the request for the special Technical Rescue Team (TRT) to perform a high-angle technical response once he realized this was no ordinary emergency call.
Technical rescue teams arrived on scene, gathered all of the equipment they would need for the entire rescue on their back, and began their ascent up the crane’s ladder.
Crews began immediate emergency medical care while the rescue teams began devising a plan for the patient’s safe descent.
Once the crane operator was safely hooked up to the ropes and rigging system, crews had him lowered and on the ground. The man was then transported to the hospital in stable condition.
According to the Fort Worth Fire Department, the rescue happened within less than an hour of crews initially reaching him.
