Two daycare workers arrested after toddler left in hot van for hours

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Two employees of an Eagle Pass daycare are facing charges after police say a 2-year-old child was left unattended inside a hot daycare van for about four hours, police said.

Jajaira Maria Hernandez, 33, and Samaria Denise Jimenez, 46, were booked Friday into the Tom Bowles Detention Center following an investigation that began in May.

Hernandez faces charges of abandoning or endangering a child and tampering with physical evidence. Her bond was set at $50,000.

Jimenez is charged with tampering with physical evidence and failure to report a felony. Her bond was set at $40,000.

Police said the case will be forwarded to the state licensing agency for review of the Eagle Pass Day Care Center. The U.S. Marshals Service, Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Department of Family and Protective Services assisted with the investigation.
