A woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash Sunday night on East Orem Drive in Houston.
The crash occurred around 9 p.m. near the intersection of East Orem Drive and Dawn View Lane. According to Houston Police Department, a Jeep SUV was traveling westbound on East Orem at a high rate of speed when it collided with a Honda Accord that was exiting a residential neighborhood.
The driver of the Honda Accord, an adult female, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional passengers in the Honda Accord were transported to an area hospital and are listed in stable condition.
The driver of the Jeep, an adult male, and a juvenile male passenger were both uninjured. The juvenile is identified as a family member of the driver.
Officers said the Jeep driver showed signs of intoxication at the scene. Drug Recognition Experts were called in and evaluated the driver at an off-site location.
The driver faces a charge of reckless manslaughter. Authorities said that charge could be upgraded to intoxication manslaughter pending further investigation. Officials noted the driver has no prior history of reckless driving or DUIs.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office District Attorney’s office was on scene. The investigation is being handled by HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division.
