It’s no secret Lubbock is growing. New houses. New business. New areas of town that were once empty are now thriving. It seems like every time you get in the car, you notice new construction that wasn’t happening yesterday.
But there’s something kind of hilarious about Lubbock construction.
The second you put a fence around a lot of dirt and weeds, everyone in town suddenly becomes amateur detectives.
“What are they building over there?””Not another chicken place!””We don’t need a carwash. We need rain.””I hope it’s not another Dollar General.”
Lately, Lubbock seems the most concerned and anxious about new construction that may involve data centers.
There’s been a ton of debate on whether or not it’s a good idea to build water-sucking data centers in Lubbock. People are worried, and rightfully so. We’ve got a billion questions, and many of us aren’t exactly satisfied with the answers we’ve received.
So, does new construction in Lubbock make us a tad suspicious?
Yes.
But…
I don’t think we are so much suspicious of construction as we are of surprises.
Around here, we know that an empty field can be turned into almost anything. We see it happen all the time. Most of us just want to know what the heck is going on when we spot new construction.
Surprises aren’t fun unless they happen on your birthday…
Residents are watching for construction…especially sneaky construction…
And I don’t blame them…not one bit.
