SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio attorney Martin Phipps was arrested after a 16-year-old girl living with him accused him of threatening her, a San Antonio police incident report released Monday shows.
Phipps, 57, was arrested Sunday night on a charge of terroristic threat of family/household, according to court records. He has since been released on bond.
San Antonio police began investigating on Aug. 21 after they say officers got a call from a 16-year-old girl.
According to the preliminary report, the teen told officers she was living with Phipps and that he threatened her, “which put her in fear for her life.”
Phipps is set to be arraigned on Oct. 6 in County Court 13, records show.
Phipps was previously arrested in 2021 after investigators said he harassed a woman to the point that she fled to Mexico in fear for her life.
The case no longer appears in a county records search, an indication that the charge may have been expunged from Phipps’ record.
KSAT Investigates called multiple phone numbers listed for Phipps on Monday but could not reach him.
Later Monday, Phipps sent a statement to KSAT denying the complaint against him, saying it stems from a custody dispute with his ex-wife who is using his disciplining of their daughter as “leverage.”
In the statement, Phipps said this was not the first time he has been “falsely accused and falsely arrested.” His full statement can be read below:
“First of all, this complaint did not come from my daughter, her mother, Jessica Joiner, and I are in a custody dispute and she’s using me disciplining my daughter as leverage. I love my children, have never laid a finger on them, and would never harm them in any way.
“As with many parents when they find out their children have not been honest with them, in this case for a period of several months, you lose your temper. Of course, I regret losing my temper, I love my daughter very much, but when I’m seeing behavior and patterns of behavior that I believe are dangerous to her physical and mental well-being, I’m going to get emotional.
“This is about two people and one is seeking leverage over the other. It disgusts me that my relationship with my daughter is being used for what my ex-wife perceives as leverage.
“This isn’t the first time I’ve been falsely accused and falsely arrested. I have full faith and confidence in the legal system.”
