LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – September is arriving much like August left off, with hot and dry across the region, with temperatures climbing back toward triple digits as the week progresses.

A broad ridge of high pressure continues to dominate the forecast, keeping conditions hot and dry through the week. High temperatures on Tuesday will be among the lowest of the week, reaching the low to mid-90s on the Caprock and upper 90s to around 100 degrees elsewhere. By Wednesday, temperatures will begin climbing again.

The only potential break in the pattern comes Wednesday and Thursday evenings, when a very slim chance of thunderstorms exists across the northwestern portion of the viewing area, particularly near the New Mexico border. Monsoonal moisture is expected to drift closer to the Texas-New Mexico border, but the chance of storms moving into the main viewing area remains low.

It’s not unusual for Texas to experience this kind of heat into early September. Scattered clouds may provide occasional afternoon shade through the week, but relief from the heat is not expected.
