SAN ANTONO – SAN ANTONIO – Meaningful change rarely comes from one person doing everything. It comes from many people doing something.
That is the message behind the San Antonio Food Bank’s Hunger Action Month campaign, “Nourishing in Numbers,”. Throughout September, the campaign is calling on the community to help neighbors facing hunger by donating food or money, volunteering, or speaking up about food insecurity.
The need is significant. The San Antonio Food Bank provides food and other resources to more than 100,000 people each week across 29 counties in Southwest Texas. Rising grocery and energy costs are putting additional pressure on families, making community support more important than ever.
“Together we can fight hunger, and together we can feed hope,” said Eric Cooper, president and CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank.
Cooper said the campaign is about neighbors showing up for one another during a difficult time. Every contribution, whether it is food, time, money or advocacy, can help strengthen the community and move San Antonio closer to becoming hunger-free.
The San Antonio Food Bank said, according to the latest data from Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study, Texas had the highest level of food insecurity in the nation in 2024. In the San Antonio Food Bank’s service area, one in five people and one in four children are food insecure.
This September, the call to action is simple: Nourish in Numbers. When individuals come together, small acts of support can create a powerful response to hunger.
