Plano Independent School District hosted a rededication ceremony for Haggard Middle School on Monday, Aug. 17.
The event, themed “Honoring Our Legacy. Building Our Future,” celebrated the completion of a brand-new 187,900-square-foot facility designed to serve all students in sixth through eighth grade. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to stay for a campus open house and tour the new building.
The original Haggard Middle School opened in 1974 and was named after Clinton S. Haggard, a pioneer livestock dealer who settled in Collin County in 1856. The Haggard family has played a prominent role in public education in Plano ISD. Guest speaker Rutledge Haggard, the grandson of the school’s namesake and former 18-year Plano ISD trustee, delivered remarks during the ceremony.
“For 51 years, Haggard Middle School has held a special place in the Plano ISD story,” said Plano ISD Superintendent Dr. Theresa Williams. “It has been a place where students have learned, grown, discovered their strengths and formed lasting connections. This new building honors that legacy while opening the door to a new era. This campus reflects our community’s belief in its students and the dedicated work of people who turn that belief into opportunity each day for our students.”
The new campus was constructed on the existing school’s site while the original building remained in operation. Great care was taken throughout the project to maintain campus security, safety and daily operations.
Design on the project began in July 2023, and construction started in March 2025.
“The new Haggard Middle School building is a wonderful example of our community’s investment in the future of Plano ISD,” said Plano ISD Board President Dr. Lauren Tyra. This renovation was part of the 2022 Bond Program, which made this an exciting new learning space possible for our students, staff and community.”
