HOUSTON – Authorities say North Loop 610 at the Eastex Freeway is currently closed in both directions after a truck hauling gravel and other items tipped over while on an overpass above and spilled contents on the freeway below.
The incident happened at approximately 6:47 p.m., according to the Houston Police Department.
Lt. Larry Crowson says the large truck hauling the gravel tried to take the exit ramp from the Eastex Freeway onto the westbound lanes of the North Loop when it tipped over and lost its load.
Along with the gravel, Crowson said a pole fell from the truck and impaled another truck below through the windshield. Thankfully, Crowson said the driver inside was not hurt, just really shaken up.
The highway is currently closed in both directions as crews work to clean up the spill and clear the scene. Avoid the area and seek an alternate route.
