TODAY: Mother accused of killing 2 children, setting bodies on fire due in court

SAN ANTONIO – The mother accused of killing her two children and leaving them in a burning car will be back in court today.

Marlene Vidal will go before a judge this morning for her first court hearing.

Vidal faces two counts of capital murder and one count of arson in connection with the deaths of her two young children.

The 34-year-old Edinburg mother is accused of killing 5-year-old Adrian Akeel Vidal and 6-year-old Aleeza Elena Vidal and setting their bodies on fire.

The children were found inside a burning SUV on May 15 in a parking lot off Richland Hills, near Loop 410 and Highway 151.

Vidal was at the scene when officers arrived and was taken in for questioning. Police said evidence pointed to Vidal as being responsible for the children’s deaths. Investigators also said mental health may have played a role.

Today’s hearing is set for 9 a.m.
