State fair goers from Fort Worth can avoid fighting for parking and facing Dallas traffic by taking the Trinity Railway Express all the way to the Fair Park gates this fall.

The State Fair of Texas will run everyday from Friday, Sept. 25 to Sunday, Oct. 18 in South Dallas at Fair Park. The fair features everything from killer food and drink deals to sports games – The State Fair Classic between Grambling State University and Prairie View A&M University on Sept. 26, and the Red River Rivalry game between The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Oklahoma on Oct. 10.

Public transportation allows North Texans to travel from near and far to participate in the 140 year old Lone Star tradition.

The journey involves two partnering rail systems — the TRE and DART — and one short transfer. Riders are encouraged to plan ahead for both their fair and travel plans.

The first step is catching the TRE from two downtown Fort Worth stations: Fort Worth Central or T&P Station.

Parking at Fort Worth Central Station is limited, with only a few on-street paid parking spaces available. However, Fort Worth T&P Station serves as a major downtown park-and-ride hub and offers free parking.

Trains arrive and depart at both stations every 30 minutes during peak hours from 5 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. During off-peak hours, trains run every 60 minutes. Saturday and Sunday trains will depart every 60 minutes during the state fair’s tenure.

Riders can take any eastbound train from either station toward Dallas to Victory Station, exit and transfer to the Green Line. DART Green Line trains heading toward Fair Park, Buckner or Lawnview will take visitors directly to Fair Park Station and stop directly in front of the entrance gate.

Before picking up a corny dog or hopping on the Texas Star ferris wheel, visitors should check the train schedules and plan for cushioned travel time.

The last Green Line train connecting to the final TRE train at Victory Station leaves at 10:18 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:48 p.m. on Friday and 11:08 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
