Tropical Depression Edouard spreads gusty winds, heavy rain across southeast Texas, NHC says
Gusty winds and heavy rainfall from Tropical Depression Edouard continue to spread gradually across southeast Texas on Wednesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The system made landfall Tuesday afternoon near Johnson Bayou, Louisiana.
Edouard had maximum sustained winds of about 25 mph as of the 5 p.m. update Wednesday, with stronger gusts near the center. The storm was expected to continue weakening and dissipate Wednesday night.
The system was moving north-northwest at about 5 mph, a motion expected to continue through the next 24 hours.
The depression has a minimum central pressure of 1011 millibars.
RAINFALL:
Total rainfall along the path of Edouard is expected to range from 5 to 10 inches, with maximum totals up to 22 inches for inland areas of east-central Texas, according to the NHC.
This rainfall is likely to produce additional flash flooding, especially in low-lying and urban areas. Additional significant flash flooding is likely over the Piney Woods area of eastern Texas. Isolated moderate to major river flooding is expected.
Total rainfall over Southwest Louisiana from Edouard will range from 2 to 4 inches through Thursday.
WIND:
Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph may continue near the center of Edouard for the next several hours, with lower winds expected overnight and Thursday, the NHC’s website states.
