EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Two people are seriously hurt after an ATV crash in far East El Paso, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly after 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, deputies were dispatched to the 13500 block of Timothy Drive regarding an ATV crash involving serious injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office Special Traffic Investigators unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a blue Yamaha all-terrain vehicle was traveling westbound on a dirt road “at a high rate of speed,” according to EPCSO.
The ATV traveled over a dirt berm — a raised mound or wall of compacted soil — causing the 15-year-old driver to lose control, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The driver was transported with serious injuries, and a passenger was taken with suspected minor injuries.
“This incident is a serious reminder that ATVs can be dangerous, particularly when operated at high speeds,” said Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. “We urge parents and riders to prioritize safety, wear proper protective equipment and operate these vehicles responsibly.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
