A new Student Government Association (SGA) cabinet is beginning the 2026- 2027 academic year at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) with initiatives focused on student needs and engagement.
The SGA cabinet was elected to serve during this fiscal year’s term and includes a president, executive assistant, vice president of internal affairs and vice president of external affairs.
President Anthoni Scarola is majoring in organizational and corporate communications with a minor in marketing. Before being elected into his new role, he served as a senator-at-large within SGA and as president of AdFed.

Scarola plans to introduce initiatives that connect students with resources addressing food, transportation and housing insecurity.
“I really want to be someone that students can connect to,” Scarola said. “The main focus is getting students to know what student government actually is and what we can offer students and what we already do for students.”
Scarola also emphasized his goal of increasing transparency between his administration and the student body.
“Theodore Roosevelt had fireside chats. I want to incorporate something like that, providing transparency like how much money we’re spending each week or what initiatives we have coming up,” Scarola said.
Vice President of External Affairs Alyson Andreu is a double major in psychology and public health. She is also a Terry Scholar and previously served as a senator-at-large.
Alyson Andreu is a Psychology major, who through SGA has been involved in multiple UTEP initiatives such as the NARCAN machines around campus.
Andreu introduced her naloxone initiative, which was passed last semester. The initiative brought Narcan to campus that can be acquired cost free via a vending machine or carts around campus.
“It was very impactful and I was able to connect with outside resources and UTEP administration to bring this resource to campus based on the data we were getting from health surveys,” Andreu said.
She explained the approach she plans to take during her term.
“I live on evidence-based practices, so that’s the approach I will take with these initiatives,” Andreu said.
Vice President of Internal Affairs Jesse Corralejo is majoring in political science with a minor in real estate. He is focused on assisting senators with their projects and improving communication within SGA.

“What I’m preparing, right now, is to ensure that everyone (senators) has the right tools to get their hands dirty and feel comfortable reaching out to their deans,” Corralejo said.
He said his goal is to maintain a positive retention rate within SGA.
“I’m looking forward to see a success measurement as every senator returning for the following year, that they continue to grow and become the leaders they wish,” Corralejo said.
Newly elected Executive Assistant Ximena Delgado is a political science major with a minor in psychology. She introduced the idea of Ubers on campus to focus on alcohol awareness.

“We are trying to lower the amount of people undergoing DWI’s in El Paso. We’re also getting more involved with alcohol awareness and hazing prevention,” Delgado said.
As the new academic year begins at UTEP, SGA is emphasizing open communication between its cabinet and students and faculty members who wish to present questions or concerns. Students can communicate with the cabinet through email or attend their general biweekly meetings with more information provided on their social media platforms.
