Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles is setting her sights on the 2028 Summer Olympics, and she brought some Houston star power along for the announcement.
Chiles announced her intention to compete in the Los Angeles Games in a new social media video titled “LA2028…WHY NOT?”
The video features some major celebrity names, including Michael Jordan, Normani and Winnie Harlow.
But for Houstonians, one detail may stand out: Chiles is wearing custom grillz made by Houston legends Paul Wall and Johnny Dang.
The custom jewelry features an “LA 28” design as Chiles makes her case for a third Olympic appearance.
Chiles, 25, has already competed in two Olympics. She won a team silver medal with the U.S. at the Tokyo Games in 2021 and helped Team USA win team gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Her 2024 Games also included controversy surrounding her individual floor exercise bronze medal. After a late inquiry by Chiles and her coach, her score was initially raised, moving her into third place. Romania later successfully challenged the inquiry, and the medal was ultimately taken away.
The fight over the medal has continued. The Swiss Federal Supreme Court recently sent the case back to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after citing new video evidence.
Now, Chiles is looking ahead.
Along with her Olympic ambitions, she has taken a student coaching position with UCLA’s gymnastics team following a decorated collegiate career that included 23 All-American honors and multiple NCAA titles.
And for her latest Olympic announcement, she made sure to represent Houston, with a little help from two of the city’s most recognizable names in custom jewelry.
Paul Wall and Johnny Dang have long been associated with Houston’s hip-hop and custom-jewelry culture, making their collaboration with Chiles a fitting addition to her LA28 announcement.
