The Arlington Police Department is joining a multi-agency effort to step up traffic enforcement along North Texas highways during the upcoming Labor Day weekend.
“Operation Shield” is a three-day enforcement period that will begin on Friday, September 4, 2026, and run through Sunday, September 6, 2026. During that timeframe, APD will increase the number of officers patrolling I-20, I-30, and State Highway 360, looking for impaired or aggressive drivers.
In 2025, more than half of all fatality crashes in Texas occurred along interstates, U.S. highways, and state highways. This year, APD has already investigated seven fatality crashes along highways.
“At highway speeds, crashes can be catastrophic,” said Chief of Police Al Jones. “That’s why we’re participating in Operation Shield this weekend, to prevent injuries and save lives. We need everyone to do their part to keep our highways safe.”
APD urges drivers to follow all traffic laws and make responsible choices during Labor Day Weekend. If you’re going to consume alcohol, plan ahead and find a sober driver, use a rideshare or taxi service, or make arrangements to stay the night.
