Another holiday is coming up, which means vacations, spending time with family, and an increased police presence on Texas roads and highways.

With Labor Day taking place on Monday, more and more people will be on the roads traveling across the state. This is why safety is a huge deal for the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). As a result, more cops will be on the road waiting to catch unsuspecting drivers breaking the law behind the wheel.

What is Operation CARE?

In efforts to keep Texas drivers safe during holidays, DPS unveiled a special campaign called Operation Crash Awareness Reduction Effort (CARE). Beginning Friday, September 4 through September 7, an increased presence of State Troopers will be patrolling the streets.

If you’re concerned, just think of this as a “you have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide” situation. These troopers are really just looking for speeding, drunk driving, and failure to abide by the Move Over, Slow Down law.

As Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, Texas Highway Patrol Chief Bryan Rippee clarified the intent to keep Texas drivers safe:

While our Troopers will be out across the state working to keep our roads safe, we want to remind drivers to do their part on the road — slow down, eliminate distractions, drive sober, and buckle up.

2025 Labor Day Arrests

In fact, just last year, there were more than 63,000 citations and warnings issued on Labor Day weekend, including 211 DWI arrests.

So, if you plan on going out and drinking with friends or family, either make plans on setting a designated driver (DD) or look into all of the rideshare options like Uber.

Let’s all have a wonderful three-day weekend that does NOT involve the police, the hospital, or any “concerned 911 calls.”
