The last long weekend of summer has arrived. This year, Labor Day is on Monday, Sept. 7.
Labor Day is a federal holiday that recognizes the social and economic achievements of American workers. In celebration, U.S. workers are normally given the federal holiday as a day off, which means certain businesses may be closed for the day.
The holiday is also treated as the “last hurrah of summer,” being that it’s the last four-day weekend of the season. This year, Fort Worth will have a sunny and hot high of 99 all weekend long.
With weather perfect for a barbecue, and a long weekend, here’s what you should know about Labor Day grocery and liquor store hours as well as what else may be closed in Fort Worth.
Grocery store Labor Day hours
Most local grocery stores should be open, or open with shortened hours. For stores with no hours listed, it’s best to check with your local store on their Labor Day hours. For example, Costco is closed on Labor Day.
Aldi: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.Central Market: 8 a.m to 10 p.m.H-E-B: 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.Kroger: open regular hours, which is normally 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., but hours vary by location.Sam’s Club: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for plus members. 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for club members.Sprouts: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.Target: Hours vary by location, open normal business hours.Tom Thumb and Albertsons: 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.Trader Joe’s: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.Walmart: 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.Whole Foods: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.WinCo: Open regular business hours, which is 24/7, but hours can vary by location.Liquor store Labor Day hours
All liquor stores will be closed on Sunday as usual, but will remain open on Labor Day with normal hours, according to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
Grocery stores open on Labor Day will also sell beer and wine as normal. The hours for alcohol sales at grocery stores are weekdays, between 7 a.m. and midnight, 7 a.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday, and 10 a.m. until midnight on Sundays.

The Stockyards will still be in full swing with the normal cattle drives at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. To check specific Stockyards business hours, visit the business’s website. The Giddy Up & Go! Labor Day Weekend celebration feature rodeo events all weekend long.
The Shops at Clearfork will also be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. To check specific Clearfork store hours, visit the store’s website.
Hulen Mall is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
