The Fort Worth O.D. Wyatt Chaparrals and Fort Worth Dunbar Wildcats renewed their long-standing rivalry Thursday night at Clark Stadium. While the contest did not count in the district standings, it remained one of the most anticipated games of the season, with city bragging rights on the line.
Wyatt (2-0) rolled to a dominant 54-0 victory. To Wyatt head coach Antwaun Criss, the game and rivalry carries even deeper meaning.
“It’s family ties,” Criss said. “My grand dad used to coach at Dunbar, then he coached at O.D. Wyatt. My dad graduated from Dunbar, then came and coached at O.D. Wyatt. My uncle did the same thing. I’m the only true O.D. Wyatt Chap in the family, and I want to keep the legacy going.”

The previous two meetings between the schools were decided by a single point. Wyatt edged Dunbar 21-20 in 2025, while the Wildcats claimed a 14-13 win in 2024. This year’s matchup, however, was never in doubt.
“Our defense didn’t have a great game last week,” Criss said. “They came back and didn’t allow a touchdown tonight, so we really needed this going forward. Our offense kept the momentum going. We scored 54 points tonight after scoring 47 points last week. This is a big win for us in a big-time rivalry for the city. Tonight, we showed up.”

Wyatt came out strong with two touchdowns, including a score by Markavion Toombs, taking an early 14-0 lead. They controlled the game from start to finish.
Chaparrals defensive end Keaton Adebayo said the victory meant a great deal to the team and community.
“This means a lot to me, coming out here and beating our rivals,” Adebayo said. “It’s always good for the neighborhood and the area.”
The strong support from Wyatt fans played a role in the team’s performance, according to Criss.
“Our team is really gelling like a family,” Criss said. “As you can see, the fans came out to support us. These boys are bonded like brothers, and the coaches are like brothers. We’re one big family.”
After back-to-back impressive performances to open the season, the Chaparrals have their sights set on much bigger goals.
“I hope we go 10-0 and make it at least three rounds deep in the playoffs,” Wyatt quarterback Kentrell Steward said.
Wyatt’s quest for an undefeated regular season continues Friday, Sept. 11, when the Chaparrals travel to Frisco Liberty to face the Redhawks at David Kuykendall Stadium. Dunbar (0-2) will travel to Kaufman that same night to take on the Lions as the Wildcats search for their first win of the season.
