SAN ANTONIO — South Texas Blood and Tissue launched its 20th annual “Give to Live” blood drive Friday to combat a critical regional blood shortage that mirrors nationwide supply deficits.
The organization needs roughly 600 donations daily to meet the needs of local hospitals and healthcare facilities. Over the past two decades, the annual drive has generated more than 10,000 donations, helping save tens of thousands of lives across South Texas.
Officials emphasize that a single donation can save up to three lives.
To encourage participation, donors who give blood will receive a San Antonio Spurs rally towel. Additionally, those who donate before Sept. 6 will be entered into a raffle for a one-night stay at the Gaylord Texan Resort and two lower-level tickets to see the Dallas Cowboys play the Washington Commanders on Sept. 20.
