There are certain displays around Lubbock that don’t need a whole lot of explanation.
You see them, and you immediately understand what they mean.
This week, hundreds of American flags will once again fill Huneke Park as Prosperity Bank and the City of Lubbock present the 24th annual American Tribute Flag Field.
And this year’s display carries a little extra significance.

Prosperity Bank associates and local first responders will began placing the flags on Friday, September 4th, at Huneke Park, 4001 82nd Street in Lubbock.
The flags will remain on display through Friday, September 11th, and the public is invited to stop by and see the tribute throughout the week.

If you’ve never driven by Huneke Park while the flags are up, it’s worth making the trip.
Seeing that many American flags together is impressive under any circumstances. Knowing why they’re there makes it something entirely different.
Remembering September 11th in Lubbock
The American Tribute Flag Field honors those who have served our country, remembers the lives lost during the September 11th terrorist attacks and recognizes the first responders who continue serving our communities every day.
This year’s event is especially meaningful because 2026 marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11th, 2001.
It’s hard to believe it’s been a quarter-century.

For those of us old enough to remember that Tuesday morning, it’s one of those days where you probably still remember exactly where you were when you first heard what was happening.
For an entire generation of younger Americans, though, September 11th is now something they know only through history books, photographs, videos and stories told by those who lived through it.
That makes traditions like this increasingly important.

Prosperity Bank has been helping organize the American Tribute Flag Field for 24 years, with assistance from the Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department, first responders and community volunteers.
Mike Marshall, West Texas Area Chairman for Prosperity Bank said,
With the help of the Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department and volunteers, our community comes together every year to honor the sacrifices of those who have served, both past and present. We hope the community will come out to enjoy this patriotic display; remember those lost in the tragedy of 9/11 and recognize the daily commitment of our local first responders.”
Take a Few Minutes and See It
The flags will be on display at Huneke Park from September 4th through September 11th.
There’s no complicated schedule, ticket or admission involved. Just stop by the park and take a look.
Twenty-five years after a day Americans promised they would never forget, Lubbock is once again making sure we remember.
