BOERNE, Texas — Herff Elementary School was placed on lockdown and later evacuated Friday after reports of gunshots near the campus, according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said multiple law enforcement agencies responded and students and staff were evacuated as a precaution while authorities investigated.

Officials later determined the shots came from neighboring properties, where people were dove hunting at the time the gunfire was heard.

The sheriff’s office said there was no danger or threat to the public.
