LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A thousand American flags representing the nearly 3,000 men and women who died on Sept. 11, 2001, were placed in Huneke Park near 82nd Street and Nashville Avenue this morning.
Lubbockâs first responders worked with Prosperity Bank to place the flags.
The display gives the community a chance to reflect on the attacks, the victims and the heroes who died that day.
A total of 2,753 people died in New York, including 343 firefighters trying to rescue people from inside the Twin Towers.
184 people died at the Pentagon.
40 people died in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after sacrificing themselves to stop a fourth plane from reaching its destination.
The flags will be on display for the public over the next week.
