EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 51-year-old man was arrested after deputies said he fled the scene of a July crash in West El Paso that caused more than $9,000 in damage to another vehicle.
The crash happened around 4:46 p.m. on July 31 at Belvidere Street and the 7200 block of North Mesa Street, according to the El Paso County Constable’s Office Precinct 1.
Deputies said a white 2024 Honda CR-V was stopped at a red light when a white 2015 Ford Sport Trac made a wide right turn, crossed into oncoming traffic lanes and struck the Honda on the front driver-side fender.
Investigators said the Ford’s driver left without stopping to provide identification, check for injuries or render aid. The Honda’s driver and passenger were not injured.
With help from witnesses, deputies identified the driver as Juan Gerardo Caballero Ornelas and located the vehicle involved, the constable’s office said.
Caballero Ornelas surrendered at the Precinct 1 constable’s office on Thursday and was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a charge of collision involving damage to a vehicle of more than $200. His bond was set at $5,000.
