Sandwich defeated Plano 27-20 Friday night in the 115th annual War on 34 rivalry game, with the Indians improving to 2-1 and the Reapers falling to 0-3 on the season. Sandwich again relied on its standout rushing duo of Chase Clark and Wyatt Gregory, with Gregory rushing for 159 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries while also recording 10 total tackles on defense. Clark added 115 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. Devin Adams-Dunn contributed 80 yards on two kickoff returns for the Indians. Plano was led by Braylon Schmidt, who rushed for 58 yards on 11 carries and completed five of 11 passes for 96 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Ethan Taxis and Fin Winter each caught a touchdown pass on two receptions. Taxis also rushed for 30 yards on seven carries, while Cooper Beaty added 43 yards on 14 carries and led the Reapers defensively with 12 total tackles. Brenton Gsell provided another big play for Plano by returning a punt for a touchdown in the loss.
Yorkville fell to 2-1 with a 20-7 loss to Bolingbrook. Mason Keith and Will Freeman each recorded an interception for the Foxes in the second half, while James Sapp recovered a fumble that led to an 11-yard touchdown run by Gavin Geegan on the following play. Geegan finished with 54 rushing yards on 12 carries and added two receptions for 38 yards. Max Delgado completed 10 of 20 passes for 102 yards, with an interception, and also rushed for 43 yards on 12 carries. Ben Wade led the Yorkville defense with 11 total tackles.
Aurora Central Catholic suffered its third consecutive loss, falling 49-0 to St. Bede. The Chargers are 0-3 on the season.
Oswego remained undefeated at 3-0 after defeating Plainfield North 34-14. Ammar Banire scored two rushing touchdowns for the Panthers, including a 63-yard touchdown run, while Graham Schwab added a 41-yard rushing touchdown. Drew Kleinhans also connected with Caleb Miller for a score, with Miller running the football into the end zone.
Sycamore dropped to 2-1 after a 41-7 loss to Triad.
West Aurora picked up its first win of the season, defeating Streamwood 49-21 to improve to 1-2.
Geneva returned to the win column with a 49-17 victory over St. Charles North, moving the Vikings to 2-1 on the season.
Oswego East fell to 2-1 after being shut out 10-0 by Minooka.
Aurora Christian recorded its second consecutive shutout, defeating St. Edward 53-0 to improve to 3-0.
Kaneland rallied to defeat DeKalb 42-20 and improve to 3-0, while the Barbs fell to 1-2. DeKalb’s Jason Goode returned an interception for a touchdown to give the Barbs the lead heading into halftime, and he also recorded 12 total tackles. Goode rushed for 58 yards, followed by Brandon Williams with 55 yards and LeBron Carrington with 52 yards. Kaneland quarterback Brodie Guthrie completed 11 of 18 passes for 244 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Colton Ludwig rushed for 156 yards on 19 carries, with 108 of those yards coming in the second half, while Tommy Boryc added 117 rushing yards, including 94 in the second half.
East Aurora defeated Streamwood 47-26 to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Marmion Academy earned its second victory of the season with a 25-6 win over De La Salle Institute. The Cadets have one loss, which came in week one. Colin McEniry connected with Ryan Loria for a 19-yard touchdown last night and also scored on a 2-yard run. Marmion Academy also returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown.
Genoa-Kingston improved to 2-1 by defeating Stillman Valley 33-28.
Batavia defeated Glenbard North 49-21 to improve to 2-1 on the season.
