The lawyer for Selena’s brother, A.B. Quintanilla, responded Friday to claims that A.B. lied on social media earlier this week about a lawsuit against his sister, who is the executor of Selena’s estate.
Tuesday, Selena’s brother, A.B. Quintanilla posted about a “lawsuit involving” their sister Suzette Quintanilla-Arriaga. That was followed the next day by a joint statement from Suzette and their mother, Marcella Quintanilla, saying that A.B. “lied” and they have not been served with any lawsuit. A.B. then responded immediately, claiming Suzette received he and his lawyer’s legal filings.
Friday, A.B. posted a video from his lawyer, Jeff Lehrman, an attorney out of Corpus Christi. In the video, he clarified that legal documents had been sent to Suzette seeking information.
“Just to clear a couple of things up…Number one: my client, Mr. Quintanilla, last year served Suzette, as the executor of the estate of Selena, several demand letters related to his demand for number one, an accounting of the estate,” Lehrman said in the video. “For reasons that are entirely unknown, Suzette has refused to comply with that request.”
He went to say that, because they have not received what was requested, he was forced, on behalf of his client, to begin the process of filing a lawsuit.
“There is going to be a lawsuit that will be filed and my firm is preparing that as we speak,” Lehrman said. “We will be filing that lawsuit next week in Nueces County.”
A.B.’s lawyer also said A.B. has not received payment that he is owed from the estate.
‘it will be seeking all of his interests and all of his owed distributions, unpaid income and unpaid earnings that he has not received,” Lehrman said.
Earlier this week, in a joint statement between Suzette and their mother Marcella, the pair appeared to respond in advance of anticipated claims A.B. might make.
The statement says in part, “A.B. also refers repeatedly to ‘years’ of family circumstances, ‘facts’ and ‘evidence’ while making serious insinuations concerning Suzette, his father and this family.”
They also referred to potential allegations against Suzette that were not specifically mentioned in A.B.’s comments.
“Suzette has not stolen, misappropriated or improperly taken money or property belonging to A.B., Abraham, Marcella, Chris, or any family-owned or jointly owned business,” the statement read. “Suzette is not selling, and has no intention of selling Selena’s personal belongings.”
