SAN ANTONIO – A school resource officer with South West Independent School District (SWISD) has resigned after being arrested for child endangerment.
Around 2:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, 23-year-old Melanie Miriam Gonzales was arrested and charged with Abandoning/Endagering a Child with Intent to Return.
She was employed as a School Resource Officer with the Southwest ISD Police Department for approximately two years,” a representative with South West Independent School District said in a statement. “She resigned from her position immediately following her arrest.
Court records indicate that this stems from an incident that occurred on August 30. The circumstances surrounding that incident have yet to be released.
Gonzales has since been released from the Bexar County Jail on bond.
