LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The long drought ended for the Coronado Mustangs as they held on to beat the Lubbock High Westerners 21-10 on “Thursday Night Throwdown” on Fox34.
Coronado QB David Bawcum and WR Rebel Beckham connected for multiple scores, as the Mustangs were able to set aside frustrations from last week’s loss to rivals Monterey. This is also the team’s first on-field victory since beating Lubbock High in 2024. Their lone victory in 2025 came after a loss to Amarillo High was forfeited.
The Mustangs will try to go 2-1 next Friday against the Frenship Memorial Panthers, who will also be seeking their first win of the year. Lubbock High will play the earlier game and host San Angelo Lake View.
