After several years of operation including a turbulent ride along the way, one of North Texas’ most celebrated barbecue restaurants recently announced its closing. Treviño’s Craft Smokehouse, which has been serving folks on and off since 2020, has permanently shut its doors.
Dustin and Sara Treviño, the married couple behind the restaurant, said in a social media post on Thursday that financial challenges ultimately led to closing the storefront.
“This has been a difficult season for our family in more ways than we can put into words,” read the statement from the Treviño family. “We don’t know exactly what the road ahead looks like, or how long it will take to recover financially from everything we have poured into this business.”
They added they’re looking to their faith to guide them through their “rebuild.”
“We are going to pray for the strength to rebuild. To rebuild financially. To rebuild our lives,” the Treviños wrote. “To take everything we have learned through this experience and use it to create something new when the time is right.”
Treviño’s Craft Smokehouse has endured its share of challenges over the last five-plus years. The restaurant launched in Jacksboro-about 60 miles northwest of Fort Worth-in 2021, but the couple closed the hamstrung business in late 2022. After a two-year retreat, the Treviños returned to Jacksboro.
Dustin Treviño admitted to Daniel Vaughn of Texas Monthly in June 2025 that he had trouble with the business side of running a restaurant in those first few years, gaining knowledge by essentially staging at North Texas Smoke BBQ. In that story, Treviño said they were “paying the bills” at the new location.
The smokehouse specialized in Central Texas barbecue with brisket, ribs, pulled pork and sausage, plus sides with more of a Tex-Mex flavor including charro beans, a chori-queso mac and street corn.
