CPL Matthew D. Cline, age 25, of Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of California, Missouri, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026, in Fort Worth during a military training exercise.
Matthew was born on August 3, 2000, in Wichita, Kansas, the only son of Rodney D. and Sheila M. (Elmore) Cline.
Growing up in a small country town, Matthew was anything but a country boy. Curious by nature and drawn to technology from a young age, he developed a passion for computers that would remain with him throughout his life.
He graduated from Macon High School in 2018 and demonstrated an exceptional work ethic early on, entering the workforce at just 16 years old. He worked at McDonald’s before relocating to California, Missouri where he worked at C & R Market.
Determined to continue his education, Matthew earned an Associate Degree in Software Development, combining his love of technology with his desire to build a meaningful career.
On February 19, 2024, Matthew proudly transitioned to active duty in the United States Marine Corps after first enlisting as a Marine Corps Reservist in 2019. Throughout his military career, he answered the call to serve his country with honor, dedication, and unwavering commitment. At the time of his passing, he held the rank of Corporal and was serving with VMGR-234, MAG-41, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing in Fort Worth, Texas. Matthew found great purpose in his service and was especially proud to pursue his goal of becoming an aircraft mechanic, embracing every opportunity to learn, grow, and serve alongside his fellow Marines.
While working in Kansas City, Matthew met the love of his life, Karla, and for them it truly was love at first sight. Their relationship was built on friendship, laughter, and a shared appreciation for life’s simple joys. They enjoyed working out together, taking long walks, visiting the zoo, cooling off at the pool, trying new restaurants, and spending quiet evenings watching movies. On January 18, 2025, Matthew and Karla were united in marriage. Though they were blessed with only a year and a half together as husband and wife, their time was filled with love, happiness, and cherished memories that will forever remain in Karla’s heart.
Matthew was a simple man with a kind heart and a brilliant mind. He was affectionately known as a “computer nerd” by those who loved him, embracing his passion for technology and spending countless hours gaming, especially playing Call of Duty on his PlayStation. Music was a constant companion in his life, and he loved traveling to new places whenever the opportunity arose. Of all the destinations he visited, Branson remained his favorite place to relax and make memories.
Above all else, Matthew will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering determination, loyal heart, and deep love for his family, friends, fellow Marines, and especially his beloved wife. His life, though far too brief, was one marked by purpose, devotion, and service to others. He leaves behind a legacy of honor, integrity, and love that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
Survivors include his loving wife, Karla Hernandez Naranjo Cline of the home, and his mom, Sheila Cline of California, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rodney Cline.
CPL Matthew D. Cline was laid to rest with full military honors in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery-Jacksonville.
