Southbound I-37 closed in Corpus Christi as crews clear early-morning incident

Southbound I-37 was closed in Corpus Christi early Labor Day as crews used heavy equipment to clear debris from the interstate.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — First responders are busy working to clean up an incident along southbound Interstate 37 near Rand Morgan that happened around 3:30 a.m. on Labor Day.

The Corpus Christi Police Department put out a social media alert around that time announcing the closure of the interstate, saying it would take several hours to clear the scene. All southbound traffic is forced to exit at Rand Morgan.

There is no word yet on what exactly caused the shutdown, but as of Monday at 8:00 a.m., the road was still closed to southbound traffic. Crews were seen using heavy equipment to clear debris from the roadway.
