Labor Day 2026: Events happening in Houston Monday, Sept. 7

If you’re off work for Labor Day and still looking for something to do, there are several events happening across Houston today, Monday, Sept. 7.

From a family-friendly foam party to aviation activities, museum visits, and Houston Restaurant Weeks specials, here’s what’s happening today.

Labor Day Foam Party at POST Houston

Families can cool off at the Labor Day Foam Party at POST Houston’s Skylawn.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features multiple foam machines, family-friendly music and views of downtown Houston.

Admission is $5, and the event is open to all ages. Organizers say it will take place rain or shine.

Labor Day Fun at Lone Star Flight Museum

The Lone Star Flight Museum is celebrating Labor Day with a day of aviation-themed activities.

The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, with the special Labor Day program running throughout the day.

Admission is $10 for everyone, and visitors can get a free hot dog, chips and drink while supplies last.

Activities include aircraft displays, plane tours, free flight simulators and children’s STEM activities. Some aircraft displays are weather permitting.

Houston Restaurant Weeks ends Monday

If you’ve been meaning to try a new Houston restaurant, Monday is your last chance to take part in Houston Restaurant Weeks.

The annual dining event wraps up Sept. 7, with participating restaurants offering special prix fixe menus while raising money for the Houston Food Bank.

More than 380 restaurants are participating this year, with options ranging from casual dining to upscale restaurants.

Houston museums are open

Looking for something indoors?

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is opening its doors on Labor Day, even though it is normally closed Mondays.

The museum’s Sarofim Campus is open 12:30 to 6 p.m., while Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens and Rienzi are open 1 to 5 p.m.

The museum is also featuring exhibitions including Ernesto Neto: SunForceOceanLife, an interactive installation designed for hands-on exploration.

Jurassic Quest at NRG Park

Families can also check out Jurassic Quest at the Reliant Center on Monday.

The event is listed for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features life-size dinosaurs and family activities.

TXU Energy Presents Mythical Realms at the Houston Zoo

The Houston Zoo is also open Monday, with TXU Energy Presents Mythical Realms running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is part of the zoo’s current programming and gives visitors another option for spending the holiday with the family.

What’s the weather like today?

If you’re heading outside, keep an eye on the heat.

Houston is expected to reach the mid-90s Monday, with heat index values potentially climbing between 102 and 109 degrees. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms are also possible, particularly south of Interstate 10.

For outdoor events, plan for the heat, stay hydrated and check the forecast before heading out.
