SAN ANTONIO – A young child was taken to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle while running across a parking lot near an Olive Garden, police said.
Around 4:20 p.m. on Monday, police were called to a reported pedestrian accident near the corner of West Loop 1604 and Highway 151.
Police said the child, described as about 3 to 4 years old, ran across a small street as a vehicle was turning around the Olive Garden. Police said the driver did not have enough time to stop and the vehicle ran over the child’s foot.
“This vehicle was is turning around the Olive Garden, and a child around three to four years of age ran across the little street, and the car didn’t have enough time. Stopped and ran over the child’s foot,” an officer said in a statement provided at the scene.
The child was transported to the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition, according to the notes provided. At the scene, police said they did not yet have an official medical update from EMS.
“We don’t have a condition right now. EMS wasn’t able to give us one, but he’s on the way. He should be at University Hospital already by now,” the officer said.
Police said no criminal offense is suspected and the incident appears to have been an accident. “Yeah, but no, no criminal offense is suspected right now. That’s why we don’t have crime scene tape up. No, no, no crime scene. We’re just there’s no criminal,” the officer said.
Police said the driver remained at the scene and was not injured. “The driver is completely fine. Obviously, he’s a little shaken up from the incident,” the officer said.
