SAN ANTONIO – A North side neighborhood is struggling with repeated mailbox break-ins and the losses are getting costly.

“We just want our mail,” said Don Ford, president of the Falling Brook Homeowners Association.
It’s a problem that residents in the neighborhood have dealt with for years; cluster mailboxes keep getting broken into. Important mail, documents and packages have repeatedly been stolen.
“We have two old units in the neighborhood, and both of them have been broken into three times this year so far,” Ford said. He’s lived in the neighborhood for 12 years and said the boxes have been broken into at least 10 times over the years.
It’s a story we’ve told you before. This same problem happened along this same street back in 2020.
“It was broken into multiple times. It became completely unrepairable, and all the residents were having to go to the post office to get their mail,” Ford said.
Back then, the problem was fixed on the same day as our reporting.
Ford said that isn’t the case this time.
“Initially [USPS] said they were going to try to repair it and then said that if it was not repairable that the subdivision would have to pay for it,” he said.
He and other neighbors said crews came out to look at the damage, but the parts on the mailboxes are too old to be replaced; forcing them to pick up their mail at the Encino Park post office, roughly six miles away from the neighborhood.
After months of pushing for the mailboxes to be fixed, Ford took matters into his own hands. He set up cameras around the neighborhood, hoping to catch whoever is responsible. The cameras point directly at the mailboxes.
But Ford said they haven’t caught anyone yet.
We reached out to the United States Postal Service [USPS] to ask what steps they’re taking to get people their mail.
