LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The heat continues to control west Texas weather with afternoon highs in the 90s, again.

No exception on this Labor Day, with Lubbock hitting the 95-degree mark and most of the south Plains feeling the heat as well. For communities along and east of the Caprock the heat has been more intense. The afternoon highs have hit and exceeded the 100-degree mark. In addition, humidity levels have been higher in that region than the remainder of the area.

Not much change the next two days, however, Thursday should be slightly cooler and hopefully wetter. A weak cold front has the potential to move across the Panhandle and South Plains by late Wednesday and into Thursday. That cold front will bring a chance of showers and storms and some lower temperatures for a day or so.

The rain potential will decrease on Friday and the chances will remain on the low side through the weekend.
Long term, there are some indications for cooler temperatures and increasing rain chances for west Texas next week.
