Barnes & Noble is opening more stores across Texas. Here’s where new locations are coming

  • September 8, 2026

Barnes & Noble is continuing its Texas expansion, with several new bookstores opening across the state in 2026, including a new location in San Antonio opening this week.

The bookseller announced plans to open 60 new stores across the U.S. in 2026, continuing a major brick-and-mortar expansion as demand for physical bookstores remains strong. Texas is among the states seeing multiple new locations.

For Texans, the expansion means more places to shop for books, gifts, toys, games, vinyl and other entertainment.

New Barnes & Noble opens in San Antonio

Barnes & Noble is set to open its newest San Antonio store Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Huebner Oaks.

The more than 20,000-square-foot bookstore is taking over a former Bed Bath & Beyond space next to Trader Joe’s at 11745 Interstate 10.

The store will feature books, toys, games, magazines, gifts and a Barnes & Noble Café.

The opening will also include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and book signing with San Antonio author Kelsey Cox.

It will be the sixth Barnes & Noble location in San Antonio.

What about Houston?

Houston already has several Barnes & Noble locations, including stores in River Oaks, Weslayan Plaza, Memorial, Pearland, Pasadena, Champions Village and Copperfield. There are also locations in the surrounding area, including Katy, Richmond, The Woodlands, Spring, Sugar Land and Conroe.

The company opened a new Houston location at 12850 Memorial Drive in 2025 as part of its previous wave of expansion.

Barnes & Noble has not announced another new Houston location as part of the six additional Texas stores planned for the remainder of 2026.

More Texas stores are coming

Barnes & Noble says six additional Texas bookstores are planned to open in the coming months, following the San Antonio location.

The company has already expanded into several Texas communities in recent years, including Prosper, Abilene, Austin, Brownsville, Burleson, Rockwall and Spring.

The Prosper location, which opened in May, is located at The Gates of Prosper and features more than 20,000 square feet of retail space, along with a Barnes & Noble Café.

Laredo is also getting its first-ever Barnes & Noble. The store at Mall Del Norte is scheduled to open Sept. 30 and will occupy nearly 20,000 square feet of space.

Another planned Texas location is coming to Grand Prairie, where Barnes & Noble is planning a store at Epic West Towne Crossing.

Why is Barnes & Noble opening so many stores?

The expansion comes as Barnes & Noble continues to bet on in-person shopping and the experience of visiting a physical bookstore.

The company has said strong sales at existing stores are helping fuel the expansion, while individual store managers have been given more control over merchandise and store layouts to make locations feel more connected to their communities.

For Texas shoppers, that means the return of something that seemed to be disappearing from the retail landscape: more places to browse books in person.

Barnes & Noble has not yet released all details, including opening dates and addresses, for the remaining Texas stores planned for 2026.
