Tesla is planning another expansion in Central Texas, this time in Mustang Ridge south of Austin. A new state filing describes the project as the “Mustang Ridge Distribution Center,” built out of existing office and warehouse space Tesla is leasing. The facility is set to start construction in December and will cover 538,720 square feet. Estimated costs are $1.44 million, and Houston-based Clay Development and Construction is listed as the designer. The site sits off U.S. 183, about 12 miles south of Tesla’s Austin headquarters. Tesla has also filed more work across Gigafactory Texas, including projects tied to Terafab and a semiconductor facility in rural Grimes County. Elon Musk said Tesla’s headcount could top 30,000 in the Austin area by 2028. Tesla finished 2025 with 16,506 employees in the Austin area, down 22 percent from 21,191 at the end of 2024.
