HOUSTON – Following its 33-20 season opening win over Oregon State, the Houston Football team moved up to #22 in the AP and USA Today LBM Coaches Poll on Tuesday.
The win over Oregon State marked Houston’s 119th as a ranked team and first as a ranked team since the 2022 season opener.
The Cougars rolled to 533 of total offense with 305 through the air against the Beavers. It was the program’s most yards of total offense since posting 538 yards (186 rush, 352 pass) in a 38-7 win over TDECU Stadium inside TDECU Stadium on Sept. 23, 2023.
Houston also posted its highest total offense total in a season opener since accumulating 577 yards (257 rush, 320 pass) in a 45-27 win at Rice on Sept. 1, 2018. It was the Cougars’ highest total in a season opener at home since compiling 621 yards (266 rush, 355 pass) in a 52-24 win over Tennessee Tech inside TDECU Stadium on Sept. 5, 2015.
The Cougars host the Southern Jaguars in their next home game on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. inside TDECU Stadium.
