WACO, Texas (KWTX) – A Lubbock man is facing a money laundering charge charge after DPS troopers in Waco found 133 pounds of marijuana and thousands of dollars in a car he was driving, an affidavit states.
Cole Bleu Jones, 42, is charged with possession of marijuana and money laundering. He is currently out on a $70,000 bond.
On Sept. 4, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper conducted a traffic stop near milepost 346 on Interstate 35 after Cole was allegedly spotted driving in the left lane without passing.
That stretch of highway is clearly marked “Left Lane for Passing Only,” the affidavit states.
While speaking with the trooper, Jones exhibited multiple indicators of deception and heightened levels of anxiety as he spoke, according to the document.
The trooper describes in the document how Cole’s story changed many times regarding what he was allegedly doing in Fort Worth before he changed his story to say he was visiting Oklahoma.
Cole told the trooper that everything in the vehicle was his and took responsibility, the affidavit states.
The trooper had reason to believe he was engaged in criminal activity.
According to the document, when the trooper asked for Cole’s consent to search the vehicle, Cole denied it.
K-9 Karma was ordered to conduct a free-air sniff around Cole’s vehicle, according to the document.
K-9 Karma indicated a positive alert for the odor of illegal substances.
The trooper then conducted a probable cause search, where he found 133 pounds of vacuum-sealed marijuana located and concealed under the bed cover of the truck, according to the document.
During this search, rubber-banded bundles of money totaling $6,804 were also found, the affidavit states.
According to the affidavit, Cole admitted he knew about the drugs found in the bed of his truck, but he refused to cooperate with law enforcement.
