EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — UTEP will kick off the new school year with its annual Minerpalooza celebration Friday, featuring live music, family activities, food and student organization fundraisers.
The free event is scheduled from 6 to 11:45 p.m. at Centennial Plaza on the UTEP campus.
This year’s lineup will highlight Borderland sounds and Latin-pop performances, according to UTEP.
El Paso-based cumbia group Frontera Bugalu, Latin-pop artist Darian Amant and the Jezzika Sax Experience are scheduled to perform.
UTEP said Darian Amant will headline the festival, while student DJ Ruub will also take the stage after winning the university’s first Battle of the DJs competition.
The event will include Pete’s Playground, a children’s area with family-friendly activities and inflatables. Food will be available for purchase, and a beer and wine garden will be open for attendees 21 and older.
Minerpalooza also serves as a fundraiser for UTEP student organizations.
Festivalgoers can buy tickets for games and activities for $1 each, with activities ranging from one to five tickets per play. Tickets may be purchased with cash or credit card.
Free guest parking will be available in Schuster lots 2, 3 and 4; the Schuster Garage; Sun Bowl lots 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8; and the Sun Bowl Garage. ADA guest parking will be available in the University 3 lot next to the Liberal Arts Building.
UTEP said Minerpalooza will follow a clear bag policy.
