SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) -The Rollin Locos Red River Chapter completed its debut ride to raise awareness for ovarian cancer.
“This was the last leg of a trip that went over the entire state of Texas, little over 3100 miles total,” said Kyle Johnson, a Rollin Locos Red River rider.
“Took a little over 5 days, we did Sherman to Kermit and Terlingua and South Padre then Orange then back to here,” said Heath Howard, a Rollin Locos Red River rider.
When they were planning the trip, the riders said it was a no brainer to ride for ovarian cancer. For two bikers, it hits close to home.
“My mother is an ovarian cancer survivor, Josh’s mom is also an ovarian cancer survivor she’s actually here today and we decided you know it just kinda fit and this was a good cause to do something for,” Howard said.
Howard said when his mom was diagnosed in the 90s, her survival chances were slim.
“It was pretty much a death sentence, she’s lucky that she actually did survive and I took her to chemo treatments and it was very hard on our family,” Howard said.
Chapter presents $3,000 check
The Rollin Locos Red River Chapter partnered with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, giving them a $3,000 check to help those in need.
“This is something that’s a little different and it’s not done very often, we did this in September because it is ovarian cancer awareness month,” Johnson said.
This was the chapter’s inaugural trip. The chapter said it will continue the ride for years to come, and members had a message for other chapters.
“We’re gonna throw a challenge out to our brother chapters to Arizona and California to ride their states for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition,” Howard said.
